Therapy for the person who's everyone's rock

You're the capable one. The one people lean on. And privately, you're tired—and quietly afraid that if you ever stopped being useful, no one would stay.

Are you the rock for everyone around you?

I help people who feel stuck being the strong one – always stable, dependable, and helpful, but unable to get their own needs met. You love your strength, but you're wondering if life is becoming too stressful and you're unsure of how to make changes.

Do You Recognize Yourself?

  • You're the one everyone comes to, but you rarely let anyone take care of you
  • You over-give and then feel invisible or resentful when it isn't returned
  • You learned early that being the steady, low-maintenance one kept the peace
  • You struggle to name what you need — or to believe your needs even matter
  • You feel guilty saying no, resting, or asking for help
  • You cope by staying busy, staying in control, and staying useful
  • You're exhausted from holding everything together with no one holding you

How I Can Help

I take a direct, no-nonsense approach. We won't just talk about your feelings — we'll dig into the patterns driving your choices and figure out why you keep ending up as the one who gives everything and asks for nothing.

Whether you're burned out from caretaking, stuck in people-pleasing, or realizing you've spent years abandoning your own needs, I'll help you understand what's really going on beneath the surface. Using EMDR and other evidence-based approaches, we can process the experiences — often going back to childhood or family dynamics — that taught you being needed was safer than being known.

My style is warm but blunt. I'll call things as I see them, and I'll give you the tools to make real changes — not just insight, but action — so you can keep caring about people without losing yourself in the process.

What to Expect

We'll start by understanding your history and identifying the patterns that keep showing up — where the caretaking began, what it protects, and where it's costing you now. From there, we'll work on the underlying beliefs and experiences that drive those patterns, often going back to family dynamics or past trauma.

Sessions are 50 minutes, available in-person or online. Some clients come in for focused work on a specific season of burnout, while others benefit from longer-term therapy to fundamentally change how they relate to themselves and others.

Frequently Asked Questions

Being high-functioning doesn’t mean you’re okay. Many people who are everyone’s rock push through by staying busy, staying useful, and taking care of others — while quietly running on empty. Therapy gives you a place to stop performing strength and actually feel supported for a change.

Resentment usually builds when you’ve been over-giving and under-receiving for a long time. It’s not a flaw — it’s a signal that your own needs have been getting ignored, often by you. We’ll work on noticing those needs sooner and setting boundaries before you hit burnout.

Insight alone rarely shifts deep patterns, because being the steady, capable one was often something you learned early to stay safe or keep the peace. Using EMDR and other evidence-based approaches, we work beneath the level of analysis so change actually sticks — not just as an idea, but in how you feel and act.

No. Learning to receive, rest, and set limits doesn’t make you less caring — it makes your care sustainable. Most clients find they show up more fully for the people they love once they’re no longer self-abandoning to do it.

Where I See Clients

I see clients in person across California — from Los Angeles and Santa Barbara to the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout Northern and Southern California — as well as in Florida. Online therapy sessions are available nationwide for clients anywhere in the US.
